Do you ever get that craving for one of your childhood favorites or comfort food? I haven’t had a sloppy Joe in a while and the other night I had a craving for it. When I was a kid, the regular Manwich with ground beef use to be the jam for me. Now, fortunately, my taste buds have elevated. I love ground turkey spaghetti and I usually make my sauce homemade. Ingredients to make homemade Sloppy Joe Recipe

Like I said before, I prefer ground turkey but you can definitely make this with ground beef or chicken. If you prefer a veggie sloppy joe recipe, ground impossible meat is a good substitute as well. For seasonings the meat, I use salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, Grill Mates Brown Sugar Bourbon and a little Italian seasoning. I sauteed garlic and a surprise ingredient, relish, in olive oil. It adds a tremendous amount of flavor to the meat. For the sauce, which is really the key to the flavor. You’ll need a can of tomato sauce, a can of diced tomatoes, Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce, Louisiana hot sauce and brown sugar.

How to cook Sloppy Joes

The best thing about this recipe is it only takes about 30 minutes to make. If you use already minced garlic then the only prep that you have to do is get out the ingredients. First you’ll make your sauce so it can simmer while you’re browning and seasoning the meat. In a separate pan you’ll start preparing the meat. Start with cooking the garlic and relish in the olive oil for 2-3 minutes. After that add in the ground meat and season to your delight. Drain the meat and add in the sauce and let simmer together for 5-10 minutes. If you are starving you can cut down the simmer to 2-5 minutes, enough time to let the flavors mingle. Once that is done, toast and butter your buns, add cheese if you like and enjoy.
