mom daughter self care cover

My favorite thing to do on Sunday is to take care of myself. It is so necessary to take a break and thank your body for all that it has done for you and then give it the best love and care you can. Mom’s especially should take a moment to get themselves together, make sure you check out self-care for moms. It is also important to teach our children to care for themselves as well. This Sunday I did a mother-daughter self care day. Where we took care of ourselves together. It is super easy to do and very inexpensive. Try some of these ideas below with you and your little ones to get in some self love.

At home pedicure

When I think of self care I think of nails. We ordered this foot bath basin from Amazon and it has saved me so much money on pedicures. I did already go to the nail salon for mine, but I gave my daughter a pedicure at home with her favorite nail polish. I used pure epsom salt with peppermint and warm water while her feet soaked for about 10 minutes. Afterward I moisturized her feet with “energy” aromatherapy lotion from Bath and Body Works, to make her feet feel really relaxed and tingly. I finished them off with pink and sparkly nail polish.

Face Mask

The thing about face masks is that you have to make sure that your face is not sensitive to the ingredients. I found a charcoal face mask from my local Black owned beauty supply. It was a very easy application and it felt really great on our faces. It says to leave it on your face for 20 minutes, but because this was our first time using this mask, we did 10 minutes to make sure there were no reactions. It gave it a light, fresh feel afterwards and what’s even better is that the mask cost only $2.

Lip Exfoliate for Self Care

We often forget that our lips need love too, other than kisses. The winter is usually when lips are drier but they should get proper attention year round. I have this lip exfoliator from e.l.f. but I allowed my daughter to use it as well. It’s super simple application. You just apply it on like chapstick or lip gloss, but rub it in a circular motion to get off all of the chapped skin. Once you do that, rub it off with a cotton ball and you have fresh lips. There was no reaction with this but make sure you check ingredients in case of allergies.

Hair

Sundays are usually hair day in my house, to get ready for the week. I really never feel like doing my hair so I just did my daughter’s. She has locs so we did a full retwist and style. The best advice for hair self care I can give is to use products where water is one of the first two ingredients. Those products are going to be better for the health of your hair. Also for your kids go with styles that don’t pull too tight and last longer, so you’re not constantly brushing and combing.

Stretching and Meditating

A big part of self care for me is freeing my thought and mind from things for a moment to reset. I have been teaching my daughter about meditating in hopes that she finds comfort in it and will continue. We meditate for 5-10 minutes in a room free of distractions. Then follow that up with 5-10 minutes of stretching, making sure our body is relaxed and focusing on any parts that need special attention.

I hope that these practices stick with my daughter and she’ll want to continue on with them throughout her life. Make sure you check out our TikTok we made on this, for better visuals. Let us know what self care routines you and your family like to do together.
