The holidays have wrapped up, families are recovering from COVID, and we are ready to get back into hanging outdoors with the family. Well maybe that is just me, but hopefully not. February is a really fun month because we celebrate Black History Month, Valentine’s Day and we are getting a little bit closer to Spring. This month there are different family events and things to do to get you and your family out of the house. Check them out below, free events are listed as well.

These family events and things to do in Atlanta are one-day events. Some are free, some require reservations or tickets.

Atl station family events and things to do

Lunar New Year at Atlantic Station, now -Feb. 28
Free celebration of The Year of The Tiger. Come see the decor and traditions, lantern show at the top of the hour each night from 5-9PM.

Free Tour: We Shall Overcome at Oakland Cemetery, Feb. 6, 10, 15, 19, 20, 26
This 75 minute guided tour explores the lives and accomplishments of African-Americans in Atlanta. This is a free event but reservations are recommended.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at The Fox Theatre, Feb. 10-13
Bring your family out to this much anticipated return to The Fox Theatre. The AA Dance Theater will be performing their classic routines and new ones. Covid vaccine or negative test required for entry, tickets $29-89.

Atl station

Hello Kitty Cafe Truck at Atlantic Station, Feb. 19
This is not a food truck, it is a merchandise truck. This truck has exclusive merchandise and treats.We went last year and advise you to come early, note they only accept card payments.

Atlanta United Tailgating at The Home Depot Backyard, Feb. 27
This is a family event and thing to do in Atlanta if you are into soccer. Come tailgate with other fans right outside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. There will be free games and activities

Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air, these family events are not just for couples. They are to celebrate the love for the whole family.

Valentine’s Dance Party: Totally Tiki Luau at Ben Robertson Community Center, Feb. 5
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with the whole family at this fun event in Kennesaw. Tickets are $15 and they include a dinner buffet and dessert bar plus photo opportunities.

Lunch Date with your Little Cupid at The Melting Pot, Feb. 6
Make your kids feel extra special this holiday and take them to a three-course fondue meal at select Melting Pot locations. Adults $29, kids 11 and under, $19. Reservation required.

Family Valentine’s Party at Halcyon on Feb. 12
Celebrate Valentine’s Day at Halcyon with your family. This is a free event. There will be a live performance, meet and greet with Minnie and Mickey, Furkids Puppy Kissing Booth and crafts.

Valentine’s Day at The Children’s Museum on Feb. 14
If you are home with a little one that isn’t in school yet, have a little date with them. This family event is going to have an art studio, animal yoga, storytime and more.

Museums and Attractions

There are so many museums in Atlanta. A lot of them have events and activities all the time, check out the list of them here. These family events and things to do are perfect if you want to have fun and get your kids learning without knowing it.

Celebrate Black History Month at The Children’s Museum, Feb. 1-28
Throughout the museum they will be highlighting Black inventors, scientist, and artists. Get your kids familiarized with these Black heroes and role models.

Toddler Thursdays at The High Museum, Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24
This family event and thing to do is for little ones 15 months to 3 years old. Enjoy doing a craft with your toddler and tour the museum, the best part kids 5 and under are free.

Snow White at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, Feb. 4-6
Bring your family out to see this ballet version of the classic tale. This is only an hour show so no need to worry about attention spans. Tickets $10-52.

The Rink at Park Tavern, now- Feb. 15
Before winter is completely over get your fill in at the ice rink. This one is located inside Park Tavern so it is not too cold. It is $15-20 and 16 and up only after 8:30pm each night.

Atlanta botanical garden things to do

Orchid Daze at Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Feb. 12- April 10
Bring your family outdoors to get some beautiful fresh air. The orchids are blooming and thousands will be on display in the gardens.

Twilight Trek at Zoo Atlanta, Feb. 25
Come see the animals in their habitats after dark. There will be night vision technology to see the species you don’t see in the daytime. Tickets $25, 3 and under free

Candytopia, now – Feb.27
If you have ever imagined going to real life Candyland then this is for you. Explore this candy museum with lots of treats to eat along the way. Your kids will be so happy!

things to do

Wild Safari Experience at Illuminarium, now- Feb. 27
Experience this awesome virtual safari through Africa. Travel through South Africa, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania. Tickets are $35-50 for ages 12 and up, $30-45.

The Obama Portraits Tour at The High Museum, now – March 20
See the official portraits of former POTUS and FLOTUS from the Smithsonian. Reservation required, $16.50, ages 5 and under free.

dino safari family events and things to do

Dino Safari at North Point Mall, now – April 8
This family events and thing to do is a walk thru adventure with about 30 dinosaurs. They move and make noise to give a real-life experience. There are hands on activities as well. Wednesdays- Sundays.
