While the temperature some days don’t make sense for the Spring season, most of the days are now starting to feel great outside. We are getting into the time where everyone wants to do something on the weekend that involves fresh air or doing something cool. Atlanta has so much Spring Time Fun and events in and around the city that you can’t miss. I always say at least go to one or two things, especially the free stuff. Take a look below to check out what’s going on and mark your calendars.
Festivals and Free Spring Time Fun
Bodacious Blooms Festival at Buckhead Village, April 27-30
Enjoy this community-wide festival with beautiful floral installations, floral workshops and in-store activations and promotions. Really get the feel of Spring at this festival.
Inman Park Spring Festival at Inman Park, April 28-30
Guests to this festival can enjoy a historic tour of homes, live music, a parade, kids activities and of course food and beverage vendors. It is known as Atlanta’s most spirited and eclectic festival.
The Athlete’s Foot 3.0 Block Party at Atlantic Station, April 29
This block party will be spring time fun for the whole family. There will be gaming trucks, concessions, live performances, face-painting and basketballs competitions to win big prizes. This is a free event.
All About Kids Expo at Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, April 29
This is a free event all about your kids. The first 300 kids will receive backpacks full of goodies. The expo will include tons of activities, stage shows, face painting and more. Registration requested.
Smyrna Spring Jonquil Festival at Village Green, April 29-30
In downtown Smyrna festival goers can enjoy local Smyrna restaurants, arts and crafts booths, entertainment and children activities. Free to attend.
Taste of Marietta at Marietta Square, April 30
This is Metro Atlanta’s largest food festival. There will be a variety of restaurants some new and some favorites. Featuring entertainment, a kids activity area and arts and crafts vendors along with community helpers like MPD and MFD. Free to attend, food and beverages sold separately.
Decatur Arts Festival in Downtown Decatur, May 5-7
Decatur Festival will be spring time fun for the whole family. Festival goers can enjoy an art walk stroll on Friday night where the street will be lined with art and live music. There will also be an artists market and a whole are dedicated to a mini kids festival. Food and drink and much more, free to attend.
March of Dimes March For Babies at Atlantic Station, May 6
Show your support for moms and families to have access to care. You can sign up with a team and create a fundraising page to help support maternal and infant care, especially for women of color.
Taste of East Cobb at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, May 6
This food festival will feature over 20 local restaurants in East Cobb. Admission is free, taste tickets required for restaurants, 1 ticket = $1. Restaurants tastes will be 1- 5 tickets,
Tacos and Taps Festival at Atlantic Station, May 13
This is some spring time fun that you might not want to take the kids to. This festival will feature Atlanta’s best tacos and Mexican food. Also over 60 craft beers, mezcals, margaritas and tequila.
Sweet Auburn Springfest in Sweet Auburn Historic District, May 13-14
This annual festival celebrates the historic success of African Americans on Auburn Ave. This festival will have lots of live entertainment, food and drink vendors, arts and crafts vendors, a kids zone and more.
Spring Time Fun at Museums and Attractions
Georgia State Fair at Atlanta Motor Speedway, April 28 – May 7
Enjoy all of your favorite carnival rides and food. As well as live performances, petting zoo, camel rides, pig races and more. Kids 4 and under free, tickets $5 for ages 5-12, $10 for 13 and up.
Healthy Kids Day at The YMCA, April 29
Participate in this spring time fun for families. There will be obstacle courses, a live DJ, family exercise demos, healthy refreshments and snacks and much more. This free festival will be at all Metro Atlanta YMCAs.
National Astronomy Day at Tellus Science Museum, April 29
Get into all things space with astronomy-themed activities. Visitors can look at the sun and sun spots through a special telescope, enjoy a planetarium show and see celestial objects in the night sky. Tickets $13-$17
Toddler Takeover at Alliance Theatre, April 29-30
This is spring time fun for your kids 5 and under. Toddlers (and parents) can enjoy art-making activities at the High, creating music with ASO, a parade led by Elmo and much more. 5 and under free, adult tickets $25.
Waking Wonderland at Illuminarium, now – April 30
This is an immersive experience of Lewis Carroll’s wonderland. You can chase the cheshire cat, have tea with the Mad Hatter and even wake up the Queen of Hearts. Tickets start at $27.50.
The Lizard & El Sol at Alliance Theatre, now – May 5
Be entertained by this Mexican folktale coming to life. El Sol (The Sun) is missing from the sky and the audience has to help the lizard find it and get it from it’s hiding place. Great show for young kids, tickets for 5 and under FREE, ages 6- 17 $5, adults $10.
The Nature of Color at Fernbank Museum of Natural History, now – May 7
Learn and explore the science of color through interactive activities and art exhibits. Guests can step into a color changing room with a light lab experiment, paint virtually with their hands and more. Tickets start at $22.95.
Second Sunday at The High Museum, May 14
Enjoy visiting the museum for free and it just so happens to be Mother’s Day. Enjoy a live DJ, drop-in art making and all the exhibits. Reservations are required.
Twilight Trek at Zoo Atlanta, May 11 & May 26
Come visit the zoo during the evening and experience the animals that thrive in their habitats best at night. You can use night-vision technology and enjoy special activities. Admission $25 per person, 3 and under free.
Space: A Journey to the Moon and Beyond at the Illuminarium, now – May 22
Feel like an astronaut for the day. Guests can kick up dust on the moon, see Saturn’s rings up close and experience the galaxy like never before. Tickets start at $30
Trolls: Save The Humans at Atlanta Botanical Gardens, now – September 17
This is Spring Time Fun I highly recommend. My family and I went recently experienced this exhibit. The kids loved the trolls and I loved all the beautiful greenery. Find out more about Botanical Gardens.
