School is out and the big family blockbusters are hitting the big screen this summer. Your kids have probably seen the previews for Aladdin, Secret Life of Pets 2, Toy Story 4, Lion King and more. But taking a family to the movies can add up and next thing you know you’ve spent $60+ on one night at the movies. Don’t stress, I am here to help. Here are some ways you can save your coins on the movies this summer in Atlanta.

  1. Go to a matinee: Some theaters have really good prices before the evening showtimes. For instance AMC Theaters matinee is $6.79 before noon and NCG Cinemas is $7 before 5pm
  2. Hit the movies on a Tuesday: A few theaters have a discount Tuesdays with low ticket prices and low concessions, for instance Movie Tavern and NCG Cinemas
  3. Go to the drive-in movie: The great thing about drive-in is you can bring your own food and you already have your seat. Starlight Drive-in Theatre in East Atlanta is $9 for adults and kids 5-9 are $1.
  4. Go to the discount theater: Picture Show at Merchant’s Exchange in Marietta has tickets everyday for $2, 3D movies for $4! They don’t show the movies on their release date but they do show recent ones.
  5. Check out a summer movie program: Regal Cinemas and AMC Theaters have a summer movie program where you can take the kids to see classic movies for less than $5 that have been released on DVD or streaming services.
  6. Share snacks and/or eat before you go: The concessions can really be pricey, eating at home or even a restaurant can be more filling and cheaper than buying the theater food. Or buy a large drink and popcorn and share, a lot of times you can get free refills on the large.

*Bomb Tip: Go to the movie you want to see at least 2 weekends after the release date, so you have a better choice of seats and less distractions in the theater.

Hope these ways can give you ideas to save and see your favorite flicks this summer with the family, or even on a date!
