My mind was getting fatigued with the tragedies happening, virtual school and regular life stress . My creative juices and writing abilities stopped coming naturally. I had to take a moment to reflect on this year and spend quality time with my kids for my mental health.

It was a good moment to take our minds elsewhere for a little bit and go somewhere we can feel rejuvenated. We chose to take a quick trip to Athens, GA. Where my husband and I went to college, fell in love, and our daughter attended her first college football game. The weather was great and it was Labor Day Weekend, the perfect reason to go.

Initially it was going to be a day trip but there was so much we wanted to eat, do and see that we decided to spend the night. We did pack a little overnight bag with everyone’s stuff just in case.

It was a wonderful time, we came back refreshed and our minds healthy. Being in Athens brought us back to those original goals and renewed our purpose. It really makes me feel better when I love on my family or they love on me. In those moments it’s easy to forget about what is going on in the rest of the world and just focus on being in the present. Check out our adventures in the video below.

I want to encourage you to take your family to a place that can bring them hope and joy. Not necessarily a place you stay, just somewhere you can really enjoy each other and clear your mind. Continue to be in the present, be open-minded, be a light for someone else and try your best to be optimistic and positive.
