Along with being the sole creator of Mommies R Bomb, I am also the lead content editor for a local publication here in Atlanta. In that role I write all the cover stories and some of the features in our print issue. I also edit the other content written by other contributors. I have quite a few articles of work that I would like to be on display when referring to my writing. For future projects and for others to see when considering my writing style. I came across the website Journo Portfolio. It allows for me to upload my writing (or provide links) to the content that I have created and it has become a staple of my resume.
Why have a portfolio?
As a content creator it is important to me to have examples of my work to easily show people. Rather those people are friends, colleagues or potential employers. If you have published works of art and/or writing I highly recommend having a portfolio. Especially if you are applying for other content positions. It is a professional way to display your work for others to see. On top of that it presents you as professional, organized and someone that believes that their work is important and valuable. This blog, in a way, is a portfolio of my work, but anything outside of this should have the same online touch.
Benefits of Journo Portfolio
When choosing where to have your digital portfolio you have to take into consideration what you are trying to display. Because I am primarily a writer, I want to showcase my published works. After much research I found Journo Portfolio and believe it is the right fit for me. My published work that is not on this blog is in print form. It is important for me to have a portfolio where I can upload the PDF versions of my articles. Journo Portfolio allows me to do that and also present this blog on there as well. It also allows for you to put your social media links, which is great for me to easily show my social content creations. I like the sleek and organized look of it, it is easy to read and follow. You can upload pictures of yourself and pictures to go along with the content which is a plus. I like having the option to have links to my content, if in the future I have articles published online away from this site.
Give it a try, they offer free and premium versions. Check out my portfolio to get an idea of what yours could look like. Keep making strives to present your work in a professional way, and take pride in it. As you continue to publish more this will give you a sense of what you have done so far. Once you are done doing a digital portfolio, try having some fun with this scrapbook idea.
