Free Things to do for Families in Atlanta
Second Sunday at High Museum, August 14
Second Sunday is always free at the High. Enjoy the exhibit of the month “Oliver Jeffers: 15 Years of Picturing Books” plus the other artwork around the museum. There will be a DJ and a drop-in art project as well.

Survival Safari at Zoo Atlanta, August 5
This is a fun end of summer activity for the family. There will be team challenges, scavenger hunts and engaging activities. All when the sun goes down at the zoo.
Dinosaur Birthday Bash at Fernbank Museum, August 20
If your kids love dinosaurs then this is the thing to do with your family. Celebrate the birthday of some of the largest animals with themed crafts and activities.
Twilight Tots at Zoo Atlanta, August 20
This is a chance for your little one age 0-5 to come and explore the zoo after hours. They will get a mini tour, sing songs, hear animal stories and dance like an animal.
Waking Wonderland at Illuminarium, now – Aug 31
This interactive adventure will take you on a journey through Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland. You’ll see all the main characters like Cheshire the Cat, The Mad Hatter and The Queen of Hearts.
Wild Kratts: Creature Power at The Children’s Museum, now- September 5
Let your creature powers free in this immersion of the Wild Kratts world. Discover animal habitats and defeat the villains.
Space: A Journey to the Moon and Beyond at Illuminarium, now – Dec. 31
Another immersive experience but this time in space. See Saturn’s rings up close, kick up moon dust and transport into the unknown.
Festivals in Atlanta
BeReggae Music and Arts Festival at Piedmont Park, August 12-14
Get your family immersed in the Afro Caribbean and the African diaspora. There will be lots of live entertainment, food, vendors, and activities. Free admission.
A Taste of Nigeria Festival at Atlantic Station, August 13
Bring the family together to experience the culture of Nigeria. Enjoy food, dance, music, fashion and art. Free for kids, presale $10, $20 at the door.
Piedmont Park Arts Festival at Piedmont Park, August 20-21
This annual arts festival will feature visual arts and family fun for free. There will be painters, photographers, jewelers, crafters and more. Of course food and beverage vendors and a kid zone available as well.
Summer Shade Festival at Grant Park, August 27-28
This festival is free to the public and is a send off to summer. Bring your family out to see the artist market, food trucks, live music, a kid zone and more.
Festival Peachtree Latino at Piedmont Park, August 28
This is the state’s largest multicultural event, There will be live performances from big artists, family activities, arts and crafts and hundred of vendors. Don’t miss this experience.
Live Entertainment for families in Atlanta
Encanto: The Sing-a-Long Film Concert at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, August 7
Watch the hit Disney movie in a way that you haven’t seen it before. A live on-stage band will be playing along to the film’s hit songs like, We Don’t Talk About Bruno and more.
The Incredible Book Eating Boy at Alliance Theater, now- August 14
This musical is great for all ages. Inspired by the popular book by Oliver Jeffers about a boy who doesn’t like reading so he eats the books and gets smarter, until he gets a stomach ache. Tickets $5-$15
Kidz Bop Live at Ameris Bank Amphitheater, August 14
If your kids are like mine they are fans of the Kidz Bop Kids. See them live on stage performing today’s biggest hits. Tickets $30 and up.

High Frequency Fridays at High Museum, August 5
Kick back and vibe with your friends at the museum. Listen to some of Atlanta’s hottest DJs and take in the collections. Drinks and food available as well. $25 for non-members.
Savanna Nights at Zoo Atlanta, August 12
Enjoy the sunset on the African Savanna with craft cocktails. Admission includes 6 tasting tickets, live music and keeper talks. Other adult beverages available for purchase. Tickets $35+
Fernbank After Dark at Fernbank Science Museum, August 12
This unique evening is great for a date night or to meet up with friends. Enjoy live music, full bar, tapas menu, and science demonstrations.
