Mommies R Bomb at work. As you probably have noticed, updating my blog has not been as consistent as in the past. I am working full-time, keeping up with my kid’s and their schedule, making my marriage a priority and I have a very active social life. After work I usually am not in the creative mood, nor do I want to get back on the computer. Nevertheless, I have decided to dive more into why Mommies R Bomb.com. Because we do all the things, even go to work. I work in digital marketing mostly from home, but I do go to the office once a week. On those days, I actually have to put some effort in what I wear. The office dress code is “business casual” but leans toward smart casual. In case you too go into an office every now and then, I hope I can be of some inspiration for business casual outfits to wear to the office.
What is Business Casual?
The Oxford dictionary defines business casual as “relating to or denoting a style of clothing that is less formal than traditional business wear, but is still intended to give a professional and businesslike impression.” My clothes consist of nice pants/jeans, a blouse or button up, sweaters or turtlenecks, blazers, midi to long skirts and dresses. T-shirts can be appropriate if paired with a nice blazer or slacks. Sneakers are also okay if the clothing are more business casual and less casual. Leggings can be okay with boots, sweaters and dresses. You want to make what you are wearing look more like you’re going to do some “business” than running out to the store.
Business Casual Capsule Wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe is a small collection of clothes that can be styled together different ways. I own a lot of clothes, but a small amount of business casual or work appropriate clothes. Those are in my capsule. I don’t stick to those 8 or so clothes, because I love flowers and prints but having basics you can pair with, is key. My favorite in the capsule are my pants. I have a plaid skinny pant, a dark green business jogger pant, and black flare jeans that I like to circulate. For the Fall/Winter season I rotate my sweaters and plaid button ups. In the summer I have 3-4 nice blouses, but it’s usually cold in the office so I like to wear a long-sleeve.
